What is a Trichologist?
So many patients that I see in the Hair Ott Clinic tell me that they really wished they had seen a Trichologist when their hair and scalp concerns first started.
Trichology is the scientific study of the hair and scalp, a Trichologist specialises in all matters relating to the hair and scalp and as far down as the beard in Men and excessive facial hair in Ladies.
Hair is an incredibly sensitive barometer of both the bodies internal and external environment. A Trichologist must study anatomy & physiology , genetic inheritance, nutrition, chemistry, biology, microbiology, microscopy, hair structure and processing in order to be able to competently diagnose conditions that affect both the hair and scalp and to work in conjunction with GP’s and Dermatologists to deliver a truly holistic service.
The institute of Trichologists provide education and qualifications in Trichology, including a 2-year Mentorship of clinical practice and an Ethical Code to adhere to.
